The Magic of Nin's Lagoon (eco park)

The Magic of Nin's Lagoon (eco park)

Nin - a small town in northern Croatia, which could easily be mistaken for a larger village. However, its status reflects its historical importance as the royal town of early Croatian kings. Its history, culture and legends are written in the historical core, on the bridges that connect it to the mainland, in the museums, churches and historical monuments, on the poet’s bench and statues of great persons from Croatian history.

Apart from being an exciting cultural-historical gem in northern Dalmatia, Nin also takes great pride in the amazing nature that surrounds it and great effort is continually made for its preservation. All fans of nature are delighted with the untouched scenery Nin’s lagoon is famous for and it includes the following:

The beaches

Nin is widely known for its breathtaking beaches stretching over altogether 8km. A bit more than a third of that number makes up the famous sandy Queen’s beach which has been listed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With only a minimum of human influence, the beach is a true paradise for nature lovers.

Healing mud

Just a few steps away from the Queen’s beach, there is a medicinal mud site. Healing mud found in this area has been used since the Antiquity. Even today visitors can enjoy the beneficial effect of the mud and the sight of amazing nature all around.

Natura 2000 habitat

Nin’ s lagoon is a protected territory because of its importance for the animal world and plants, some of which are endemic and even endangered. Wooden trails and bridges have been constructed along the muddy and sandy shore and through the marshes to allow the visitors to fully appreciate this wonderful habitat for many different species. Apart from the fascinating scenery, Nin’s lagoon and particularly the wetlands are also home to a great number of bird species. It is definitely a place worth exploring and a light walk is all it takes to take in the extraordinary power of nature.

Nin’s salt

In Nin salt is a symbol of tradition, centuries-old production of nature’s fruits. In fact, salt produced in Nin is of the highest quality there is and its excellence comes from the sea, sun and the wind from Velebit, which all play their part in the production process. Nin Saltworks is also a part of the eco project, since the production is organic. It’s a place where visitors can go on a trip of discovery - they can walk along the wooden trails to admire nature and have a unique experience of witnessing the craft of salt production.
