Zaton

Meet the village of Zaton, our resort’s namesake.

Zaton Holiday Resort owes its name to the immediate neighbor, the village of Zaton.

In fact, the area including the resort was known as the port of Aenona (today’s Nin) in Antiquity. Sights such as the remains of the early Christian Church of St. Andrew and the defensive tower bear witness to its history.

In between Zaton and Nin, there is also the charming Romanesque Church of Saint Nicholas on a hillock in the middle of the field Prahulje, where several Croatian kings are said to have been crowned. Other cultural-historical attractions include already mentioned Kaštelina tower built by the Venetians to defend Nin from the Ottomans, the parish church built in the 17th century dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the underwater world with rich archaeological findings now on display in the Museum of Nin Antiquities.

Both Nin and Zaton are also known for their beautiful sandy and pebble beaches, crystal clear sea and enchanting sunsets.
