Events in Zadar Region in September

Summer is slowly heading towards the ‘exit’ door, but September has its charms since it represents equally great time for holiday - the weather is still nice, the sea warm enough for a swim, it’s usually less crowded, so sightseeing becomes easier and exciting events don’t cease to happen in the entire Zadar region - from sports and music to events showcasing local culture and traditions.

All roads lead to … Zadar

The square where Zadar’s landmark, St Donatus’ Church, has stood for centuries will welcome one of the largest fairs of its kind, Proizvodi hrvatskog sela (‘authentic products of the Croatian countryside’), which forms part of a greater event called Taste and Travel. Visitors will get to admire and, more importantly, taste excellent delicacies from around Croatia. It’s an event that presents the very best of Croatian culture, tradition and cuisine. In addition, Zadar Classic Open Air finishes  with a wonderful concert , so Zadar really is a place to be the second weekend in September.

The exciting ambiance will continue throughout September, since various events guarantee everyone has the chance to find fun to their taste. As they stroll along the promenade on the third weekend in September, parents might take kids to watch several marble enthusiasts play a once very popular childhood game at Frenjafest. Sports fans will be delighted to learn that an international Zadar Dogus Basketball Tournament will be held end of the month. Since basketball is absolutely venerated in Zadar, the games are always a sight to witness. After all, Zadar lives (for) basketball.

Sport at heart

A bit further south of Zadar, there is a heart-shaped island called Galešnjak, or generally referred to as the Island of Love. That is also the name of a triathlon sport event held end of September along the coast in the village Sv Filip i Jakov. It’s the perfect excuse to explore the coast in Zadar region, participate in a sport event or simply watch the race and enjoy the merrymaking.

Let the sunshine in

Nin, a town north of Zadar, welcomes autumn this year by celebrating at the same time its cultural-historical heritage. Namely, the Church of the Holy Cross, often referred to as ‘the smallest cathedral in the world’, is a pre-Romanesque building with unique features. Its architectural and astronomic value lies in oval openings on  all sides of the majestic building which is related to the position of the Sun. Festival of the Sun’s Greetings to Autumn is a great opportunity to witness the amazing and awe-inspiring play of light that is enjoyed by all age groups. It is also an excellent excuse to visit Nin and explore its sights.

Full holiday experience

Events calendar in September serves as a wonderful invitation to explore Zadar region. With sport events, concerts, festivals of tradition and culture and other unique events, the promise of a fulfilling holiday experience doesn’t stop with the first rays of autumn sun. Indeed, summer maybe be just about to leave, but September will keep the relaxing holiday feeling going. Just a little bit longer.
